Taronga ZooMosman, NSW$7,000,000 |

In 2001 CC Pines designed and constructed a new Cable Car ride at Taronga Zoo. The client, Taronga Zoo, was represented by NSW Department of Commerce. The design process was completed by CC PINES and construction commenced once the final design was approved. This project presented many challenges, the position of the towers were adjacent to animal enclosures and in the way of the zoo patrons. The equipment involved including the towers, cable, gondolas and the top and bottom stations were all installed without causing interruptions to normal zoo operations. The cable alone was 50mm thick and the full length of it weighed 10 tons. After installation over the towers it had to be spliced over 50m. CC Pines, in their design were able to implement many of their own improvements to
the original Functional Design Brief (FDB). Some of these included six- A unique design feature originating with CC Pines, enabled the cable cars to drop to a very low loading and unloading speed at the top and bottom stations which accommodated children, the elderly and disabled passengers. Traditional alpine lifts cater for experienced skiers and would not have suited Taronga Zoo’s patrons.

During 2004 and 2005 CC Pines undertook the RAAF Base Richmond Fuel Farm Upgrade project. The project involved the construction of a new group of technical buildings for operation, control and maintenance of the facility, as well as the demolition and replacement of the fuel storage and pumping infrastructure. Completely new fire fighting systems were also installed to mitigate fire events.

In 2007 we completed a challenging project for the Department of Defence to transform a derelict site into a level and paved 5500sqm car park. The project involved the importation and compaction of 12,000 tonnes of crushed sandstone which was overlayed with road base and asphaltic concrete. The drainage solution for the site involved the formation of a bio-

Warringah CouncilDee Why Beach, NSW$90,000 |
|
During the summer of 2008/2009 CC Pines undertook a project to construct a new lifeguard platform at Dee Why Beach for Warringah Council. The new structure featured reinforced concrete piles, reinforced concrete slab and beam downturns, paved surfacing and a metal hand rail. The harsh beach conditions dictated the use of resilient materials, which included stainless steel handrails, high strength/low shrinkage concrete, and salt water resistant concrete coatings. The project was delivered over the busy summer period, which required extra focus on safety and environmental issues such as secure fencing, pedestrian management and tidal protection. CC Pines addressed all these matters without incident.

Bureau of MeteorologyGunnedah, NSW$750,000 |
|
Near the end of 2009, CC Pines was engaged to erect a 22m high radar tower for the Bureau of Meteorology on the top of a mountain in country NSW. The tower was made up of three separate sections all requiring carefully coordinated crane lifts and specialist equipment to complete the connections. The project also required extensive road works to be conducted on 7kms of dirt track to provide suitable access to the site for the necessary construction and delivery vehicles. An additional building to house the radar equipment was also installed along with a backup generator to provide constant power to the facility.

Near the end of 2008, CC Pines was engaged to erect a 30m high radar tower for the Bureau of Meteorology. The tower was made up of five separate sections all requiring carefully coordinated crane lifts and specialist equipment to complete the connections. The project also involved civil works to prepare the site, a large concrete pour

In late 2007, the Department of Housing commissioned CC Pines to remove an unsafe timber fence and replace it with secure steel framework. The build included 80m of security fencing panels which follow a 6˚ rake. The main complexities to this job were constructing and securing the fence to a cliff face 30 feet off the ground. The majority of the fence line was above existing housing, preventing access to the
cliff face from ground level. OH&S risks were far greater due to a need to work
over a ledge with heavy tools, materials as well as the requirement for hot-

In 2005 CC Pines needed to move into new commercial premises as the business continued to grow. We decided to design and build our new premises as a “project” using our own staff and sub contractors. The project was completed in 2006 and resulted in a complex that includes two office areas, a plant storage shed, a warehouse, timber and metal fabrication shops, a sand blasting facility, external storage space and two car park areas. The site has also been landscaped to include a gazebo and BBQ area and environmentally conscious erosion control measures. This complex provides us with a capability which cannot be matched by builders without these facilities for fabrication, material treatment and storage.

This project involved demolition and removal of the old Air Traffic Control Tower that was located above the fire station at Sydney Airport. CC Pines was awarded the project due to our innovative methodology whereby the tower
structure was removed in one piece using a crane and the resulting roof void was

Department of Defence Defence Establishment Orchard Hills, NSW $2,800,000 |

This project involved the construction of a new Explosive Store House on a greenfield site at Defence Establishment Orchard Hills. The storehouse was to hold soon to be purchased explosive ordnance and had to be built within extremely tight time frames. The project involved 1000m3 of concrete, 120 tonnes of steel reinforcing, over 20,000 tonnes of imported fill and 600m of new armoured electrical cable set into a new trench. The entire bunker was sealed with a waterproof membrane and then covered with compacted earth for protection. 7000m² of turf was then laid over the building and batter slopes. A Type 1 SCEC endorsed security system was installed to monitor the building and the new electrical supply line was earthed every 75m for protection. All reinforcing was also earthed to the main earth stake adjacent to the building in order to ensure no static electricity could build up around the ordinance.

Department of Defence Garden Island, NSW $550,000 |
|
This project involved the rip out and replacement of several pieces of HVAC plant from an occupied building at Garden Island Navy Base. We removed and replaced two large chillers (one from within the building and one from behind the building) as well as 6 fan coil units from the Level 1 ceiling space. The work involved a combination of mechanical, plumbing, electrical, control and general building works that had to be completed while the building was still occupied. The general building works in particular were beyond the capability of traditional mechanical contractors and the crane operations, particularly to remove the internal chiller, were extremely technical.

University of NSW Kingsford, Sydney $235,000 |

This detailed construct only project involved the extensive renovation of an existing Child Care Centre for the University of New South Wales. So that minimal disruption was imposed, the project took place over the short Christmas break where children and staff were on their holidays. Understandably, this brought sourcing challenges with many suppliers and subcontractors closed over this period. Despite this, CC Pines completed the project in 22 days (out of an available 32) which included a variety of additional works requested by the Client throughout the project duration. |
