Stratospheric Profiler - Halls Creek
Overview
In mid 2015, CC Pines was engaged to construct the civil and building elements to accommodate a new stratospheric profiler for the Bureau of Meteorology.
Located in Halls Creek in North-East Western Australia, the site was accessed via a dirt road adjacent the Halls Creek Airport. The incoming low voltage underground electrical cables were also run along the dirt road and fed into the new main switchboard to supply the new profiler and equipment shelter.
Our site works included vegetation clearance, bulk and detailed earthworks, the construction of antenna array pad footings, profiler hut pad footings and slab, perimeter fencing, drainage works, electrical and mechanical services installations.
Our contract also included the transportation and installation of an equipment shelter to house the stratospheric profiler equipment.
The works began with vegetation clearance and bulk civil works to bring the site up to the required levels. This required the transportation, placement and compaction of a considerable volume of imported material to the site from a local quarry and included the construction of battered slopes around the compound. As a value adding initiative, CC Pines also completed civil works on the adjacent site to improve the drainage and lessen the impact of drainage and overland flow on that site. This was completed at no extra cost to our client.
Once the bulk civil works were completed, the individual antenna array pad footings were formed and poured. Bidim weed mat and select fill was laid between the pad footings to minimise weed infestation and keep maintenance costs low.
This allowed electrical pits and conduits to be installed. Once the conduits were in place the perimeter earthing strap was installed and the levels were again raised to a point suitable for the preparation of the equipment shelter concrete slab on ground. Once the concrete slab was completed, the equipment shelter was delivered to site and installed.
The final activities included the commissioning and testing of the electrical systems, the finishing of the batter slopes with engineered fill to provide protection from erosion and the installation of fencing around the perimeter of the compound
